I paint images of the fat female body in scenes to evoke feelings of vulnerability and resilience at the moment of transformation. The subjects in my paintings practice escapism, avoidance, obsessive behaviour, self examination and critique, but ultimately evolve.
My artworks begin with photos using my own body as source material which I compile with other imagery into drawings and paintings. Redrawing and trial and error are an important part of my process because the work develops while it is in progress.
How we present ourselves is sometimes heavily edited and manipulated to meet social standards of emotional, mental and physical desirability, or we may obfuscate reality by lying or using avatars or filters. My paintings depict a more honest human experience.
